Iran ignores swimmer's record because of 'revealing' bathing suit
Elham Asghari had to wear an all-covering diving suit, jacket and headscarf to satisfy the Islamic Republic's strict dress codes during her swimming feat in the Caspian Sea, near the northern city of Noshahr, on June 11.In Iran, women swimmers usually compete in all-female pools to avoid being seen by men.
Ms Asghari, who prefers swimming in the sea, said that when she asked representatives from Iran's sports ministry to register her swim as a record, they first tried to lower the distance to 15km.
When she protested, they decided not to officially recognise her feat at all because her figure was "visible" when she came out of the water.
But Ms Asghari claims that seven witnesses can testify to the fact that she swam in proper Islamic dress code and that no men were present as observers.
