Tipton mosque: 'Nail bomb' attack before Friday prayers 'like a war zone'
Officers were called to Tipton, in the West Midlands, at 1.06pm this afternoon after residents reported hearing a loud bang
Counter-terror cops are investigating after a suspected nail bomb attack today close to a busy mosque.
Police evacuated hundreds of residents and sealed off streets following the blast in Tipton, West Midlands.
Horrified locals described seeing nails lying amongst debris after the device exploded shortly after 1pm.
Cops cordoned off the Kanz-ul-Iman Central Jamia mosque but said there had been no injuries in the blast.
Dozens of worshippers who had been heading to Friday prayers in the first week of Ramadan had to be turned away.
They claimed the explosion came from a suspected nail bomb planted in the car park of the popular mosque.
