Armed Forces Day June 29th 2013 - The Walk of Honor into Woolwich

An English Defence League demonstration had been planned in Woolwich after Tommy and Kev's ‘Walk of Honour’ on Armed Forces day on the 29th of this month. We have now been made aware of the festivities on that day in the area.

Out of respect for the celebrations for our troops and veterans, the EDL Woolwich demo has now been cancelled. Tommy and Kev will still be making their 17 mile Walk of Honour through London (starting from Westminster, passing Buckingham palace and heading towards Woolwich) that day to raise money for an undisclosed armed forces charity. In remembrance of Lee Rigby, they will both be carrying wreaths that they will lay at the site where he died and the walk will end.

In a welcome show of support and solidarity, Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer of the U.S.-based American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) and Anders Gravers of the Denmark-based Stop Islamisation of Europe (SIOE) and are expected to join Tommy and Kev in paying their respects to the memory of Lee Rigby and his service to his country.

As Pamella Geller explained: “All Americans feel his slaughter most keenly; this wound is particularly raw, as it came on the heels of the jihad slaughter in Boston. We are glad of this opportunity to stand in solidarity with our British brothers and sisters.”

Everyone is still very welcome to join Tommy and Kev for the last mile of the walk, but only as “members of the public”. The walk into Woolwich is no longer an EDL demo, but a mark of respect for the men and women who have risked their lives to protect our liberties. So we ask that you do not come to promote the EDL but to show your appreciation of our armed forces. Please leave your EDL flags and gear at home and join the lads in the last mile of the walk just to show your pride and respect. You can bring a wreath or flowers if you want, and you will be able to lay them at the end of the walk.

Just a short way from the end of the walk, one of the biggest Armed Forces Day festivals in the country is being held at the Royal Artillery Barracks. This will be a very large event and is guaranteed to be a fun day out for the whole family.

The Armed Forces Day festival runs until 6 pm. It includes The Tigers parachute display team, King's Troop gun carriage display, live music stage with X Factor finalist Jade Elli, fairground rides, farmyard animals for the kids, crafts, food and much, much more. Entry to the event is free of charge and so are many of the attractions.
